Meditation

Meditation is difficult to define because it covers a range of practices in different traditions and cultures. It can include almost anything intended to train the attention of the mind or teach calmness or compassion. Meditation techniques can be broadly classified into two categories: focused (or concentrative) and open monitoring methods.

Focused methods involve attention to specific objects like breath or mantras, while open monitoring includes mindfulness and awareness of mental events. To begin meditating, research the different types and try one that speaks to you. One is not better than another — they all lead to the same place.
